I read a little about GAN. It's funny, I can't believe he changed his name to Psycho.
There was alot going on before the Renaissance. You had the Greek and Roman Civilizations. The Crusades, the inquisitiion, and pretty much every other major event that forged Europe. Even now we still feel the effects from those earlier times.

I like the 1812 overture, though I fail to see the appeal in "nutcracker" or "swan lake". Straus and Pachelbel, with "Also sprach Zarathusa" and "canon", are my favourites from that era, although my favourite overall (aside from Bach) would be Wagner, almost solely for Ride of the Valkyries.
Heh, I only started listening to all of this this year, because I had to for my GCSE. And to consider works of art like these evolve into rap music depresses me somewhat.

They were one of the many charachters who brought down the Roman Empire.. There conquest goes to the Huns for pillaging Rome herself...Eventually they settled in northern brandenburg (berlin area) and where one of the races to later make up the Holy Roman Empire...which was not roman not holy and by far an empire...
